Galena Hotels are really nice, especially this inn we went to which was recommended by the cab drive that brought us there. It was an old-fashioned building and we were greeted by a butler, which I thought was cool considering this is Galena, Illinois and not London, England.

All 4 of us wanted to stay in the same room and we had to beg the management to let us do that. They were very friendly and easy to talk with. It was a big “yes” for us to all stay in one room.

We were directed to a room called Mary’s Suite. Upon entering, we were welcomed by an antique armore. The bellman said it was made by Prudence Mallard and that the armore had a historical background; it was used by the First Confederate Governor of Louisiana. He further explained about the origin of the mansion itself. We listened for a little bit before he left.

You would never have guessed that this Galena bed and breakfast is just 2 miles away from the city proper. It felt so quiet and private unlike the bustling city streets. Plus it had a nostalgic approach that made me more at home. This is definitely a tourist attraction and not just a room for rent.

We bought a house in this very modern-looking subdivision. I say modern-looking because the houses’ interior and exterior used color and texture playfully. Since we have two very naughty little boys, we found it very dangerous for them to roam around. There is always the possibility of untoward accidents, and we want to avoid them as much as possible. And so, we decided to install an iron Stair railing. This add-on will not be violating the main theme of the house, yet it will provide additional safety for my children.

I would be happy to help my neighbor clean up all the old rusty looking metal that is on his shop but he does not care. I am thinking that I might try and sell my house and move closer to the city and if my neighbor does not let me help him with my evapo-rust, then my house is not going to show very well. Maybe someday when he is not home, I will go over with my rust remover and do test spots to see how well his stuff cleans up.
